Prince’s Foundation and Net-a-Porter For Sustainable Fashion

The Prince’s Foundation and Net-a-Porter partnered on an exciting sustainable fashion initiative, titled “The Modern Artisan”. The project and debut capsule collection, which is available to view this Thursday, 12 Nov., aims to train the next generation of artisans by giving textile students in the UK and Italy “the opportunity to produce a sustainable menswear and womenswear collection”, says Clarence House in a press statement.

“Profits from the sale of the collection will be donated to The Prince’s Foundation to enable the charity to develop and deliver training programmes that will help preserve traditional textile skills.” The Modern Artisan’s debut ready-to-wear collection champions sustainable luxury fashion and is designed by students in Italy and manufactured by trainee artisans at Dumfries House, Scotland. We commend Prince Charles for his consistent campaigning for sustainability through The Prince’s Foundation, with a special focus on sustainable fashion — which the Prince has spoken about at length, most recently in the December 2020 issue of British Vogue.

“It seems to me there are huge opportunities, particularly now, within the whole sustainable fashion sector, to counter this extraordinary trend of throw-away clothing — or throwaway everything, frankly”, Prince Charles said in his sustainable fashion spread for British Vogue.
